Amanda M Swan APRN, IFMCP

I am a Yale-trained nurse practitioner, IFM-Certified Practitioner, and wellness expert with 15 years of experience in preventive medicine. I have spent much of my career ferociously seeking expertise in integrative and functional medicine, and have studied with great minds and mentors. I completed my IFM cert in Dec 2020 and also have trained with the Kalish Institute for Functional Medicine. I am currently pursuing my doctorate in nursing practice at the University of Connecticut.

My passion and excitement for integrative and functional medicine stems from my personal belief that our bodies are designed to heal. With the right tools and proper fuel, we can conquer chronic illness, prevent debilitating conditions, and be fully present in our lives. I strive to find the root cause of your symptoms rather than simply applying a pharmaceutical band-aid.

In the early years of my career, I cared for individuals living with HIV and other infectious diseases. My patients were often quite sick, and their care was complicated. These years gave me a solid foundation in conventional methodologies and the complexities of dis-ease. I have seen examples of conditions in which pharmaceuticals are absolutely necessary and lifesaving. However, I also know that in many cases our bodies are capable of healing themselves, and my practice is devoted to helping you do just that. Targeted nutritional interventions, smart supplementation, and root-cause resolution medicine allows me to guide you to healing, yet I am well trained to use and manage medications when appropriate.

When I am not practicing, studying, or dreaming up new ideas for my business, I can be found hanging out with my son and husband, knitting, shopping, and doing Crossfit.

Maura Aaberg, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner

Voted Top 10 Best Integrative APRN by Natural Nutmeg Magazine

I received both my bachelor's and master's degree from UPenn and am dually certified as a certified nurse midwife and women's health nurse practitioner. With well over a decade of experience before joining Swan Integrative Health & Wellness, I cared for women both in and outside of hospitals in Connecticut, New York, and Texas. After many years of late nights/early mornings, and more than 1,000 babies, I decided to hang up my baby-catching hat.

I was raised in a family that believed in the body's ability to heal itself-- we practiced integrative medicine long before it was popular to call it this. No stranger to complex medical problems, I recognize that both health and illness are multifactorial. I have immense respect for the innate power and wisdom of the body and know that it needs support in many forms. My passion for integrative medicine is continually expanding- I enjoy studying with some of the brightest minds in the field and believe that I always have more to learn.

My goal is to help women heal themselves and live healthier, happier lives. By working together, we will find the root cause of your symptoms, create space for healing and aim to avoid chronic disease. Active listening and targeted interventions will help us find the right balance between lifestyle changes and modern medicine.

When I am not with women, I love to hike, read and be fully present with my family. I have a lovely husband, son, and daughter as well as two rescue dogs.

Michelle Kennedy, APRN

I came to the field of health after a number of experiences traveling in Russia, East Africa, and Central America.  These focused my attentions on matters of health and wholeness. I was fascinated by concepts of health in the contexts of cultures and communities.  I studied medical anthropology as an undergraduate at University of California, San Diego.

Following some time working with Mercy Ship in New Zealand, I trained as a family nurse practitioner at the Yale School of Nursing where I was a National Health Service Corps fellow.  I have been a board certified APRN in family medicine since 2005. I worked for nearly 10 years in community health centers, first in San Diego and then in the greater New Haven area. Over those years I was engaged in a variety of exciting projects involving school based health, diabetes prevention and education, nutrition, and integrative chronic pain, all while providing full scope primary care.

For the past 5 years I have worked in women’s health practice seeing patients of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds with all degrees of health and dis-ease.  I provide GYN care for adolescents through menopause. I have provided labor support to women at home and in hospital/birth center settings. At Swan Integrative health I focus my practice on women and children.  My goal and joy in practice is to join people on their journey to living life to the fullest. I believe in a body-positive approach to our understanding of ourselves and the body’s design to function well.

I am actively expanding my functional medicine knowledge base and have completed the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice course.

Outside of work, I am married to my beloved, and the proud and grateful mama to three healthy, happy kids, all birthed at home.

Deirdre Brannin, APRN

I graduated from Boston College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a registered nurse I practiced in the Neonatal ICU, Pediatric Psychiatry and Women’s Health/Obstetrics and Gynecology. I then earned my dual Master of Science in Nursing and Healthcare Administration online while working as the Patient Services Manager of a mother/baby hospital unit while I underwent 5 years of surgical treatments for a complicated arm fracture. Once medically cleared, I returned to Boston College to complete my Post-Master’s clinical training.

I have been working as a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2013. I maintain two areas of clinical expertise: a pediatric and adolescent practice and an adult and geriatric practice. I am completing certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine and furthering my learning of botanical medicine in Dr. Aviva Romm’s Herbal Medicine for Women course.

As a practitioner of integrative medicine my role is to partner with you on your journey to wellness. Integrative medicine has so many tools to help support efficient biological processes that lead to health. We are not limited to only using pharmaceuticals once a disease has presented. We can intervene upstream, to identify and help resolve imbalances or inefficiencies that may be causing symptoms now or that may lead to disease in the future if left unresolved. I am not only a practitioner of integrative medicine, but I was also my first patient. This root cause approach saved my health when conventional medicine failed me.

In my free time, I can usually be found outside in pursuit of active adventures. I love the mountains and forests, hiking, backpacking, biking, snowboarding, kayaking, playing competitive soccer, swimming and traveling.

Voted 10 Best In Nutrition By Natural Nutmeg Magazine

I am passionate about translating the ever-changing science of nutrition into simple and meaningful information so patients can achieve optimal health without feeling deprived. I have learned that nutrition is completely individualized and that it is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

I am a licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in Connecticut and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and graduated from the University of St. Joseph with a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

I have provided evidence-based medical nutrition therapy counseling for a variety of chronic conditions for patients in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, primary care, and naturopathic practices. I support my patients with an individualized, holistic, science-based approach while educating them about ways they can incorporate sustainable lifestyle changes so they can achieve their health goals.

When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, working out, trying new recipes, and spending time at the ocean with my husband, two children, and mini-goldendoodle.

Rebecca “Becca” Crumb, Medical Assistant

I graduated from Dean College in 1994 with a degree in early childhood education. After graduation, I moved to Missoula, MT and worked as a nanny for a wonderful family who taught me volumes about patience, communication, and the importance of family.  These lessons served me well as I went on to have my own family and began a career in healthcare. Today, I have three daughters of my own. I became a certified medical assistant in 2009 so that I could help others and pursue my interest in women’s health. I worked in a busy Ob/GYN office from 2009-2017 where I honed my skills, met some wonderful patients, and mastered the ins-and-outs of a medical office.  When Amanda joined that practice, we quickly realized that we were a great team, and this has held true as I’ve transitioned into the role of medical assistant for Swan Integrative Health and Wellness. I love learning about integrative and functional medicine and look forward to what the future holds.

When I am not working, you will find me at home with my husband and our big, blended family. Together, we have seven children, two dogs, plus other small, furry family members. I enjoy cooking, traveling, and hanging with my family.  There is never a dull moment!

Valeria Agosto, Medical Assistant

I have been a medical assistant for almost a decade, having graduated from medical assistant school in 2014. Most of my career has been spent working in pediatric settings, including several years in very busy community health centers. I am excited to expand my skills at Swan Integrative and I have a strong interest in integrative medicine and holistic health. I love helping others, both medically and personally.

I am all about family.  I’m relatively new to the “Mom Club” but am getting lots of experience, and fast! I have three little ones at home that keep me and my husband busy when I’m not at work. My favorite things to do in my downtime are to hang out with friends and go shopping. I’m looking forward to the days when my kids are a little bit older and we can travel together as a family.
